A Talk on LGBTQ and SOMHIL in Assam Down Town University
On 26th of February 2020, the department of Psychology in collaboration with the department of Sociology and Social Work of Assam Down Town University organized an event in the university campus auditorium in which Dr. Mythili Hazarika (President of SOMHIL and Associate Professor of Clinical Psychology, GMCH) and Mr. Millin Dutta were invited to deliberately speak on LGBTQ community as well as bring in focus the works of SOMHIL and LAMIC. The audience included students and faculty members from all the above mentioned departments with an approximate quantity of not more than 120 people. A thirty minutes presentation on the topic of LGBTQ community and different research works on the areas related to LGBTQ group as well as SOMHIL was followed by a forty five minutes query session in which the stage was set free for the students as well as the faculties to come up with any related questions they had. The discussion was quite extensive and queries were more oriented towards transgender community. The audience were very enthusiastic to know about the ‘coming out’ of LGBTQ people and how to seek help for the same. The session was concluded by Miss. Adah who is a Trans woman and currently pursuing her masters from the same university, by sharing her experience and her journey of what she is now. At the end a photo session was held and the program was wind up by felicitating the guests.
